Martial Artists to Bleed for a Good Cause Boston (Allston) MA January 28, 2009. On Tuesday, February 10, Allston's Emerald Necklace Martial Arts & Yoga will be hosting a blood drive to support Mount Auburn Hospital from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The blood drive is the latest in the well-established series of community service events that the karate school and yoga studio regularly coordinates to support worthy causes in the Greater Boston area. "Cultivating fearlessness should be part of the training for all serious-minded martial artists and students of yoga," says Sensei Jason Gould, the Director and Chief Instructor at the Emerald Necklace studio. "So, I've challenged all of my students and members to participate in this event. If we can face the rigors of intense training at the dojo (karate school) or stand in the ring and face an opponent during a sparring match, or if we can endure a long meditation period or a challenging yoga pose, then laying down on a table for an hour to donate some blood should be easy." Gould says that he will be contacting the other martial arts schools in the area to invite them to participate in the event. "We may have different styles, backgrounds, and training philosophies, but showing our collective capacity for compassionate action is something we all can do together," he ads. According to Barbara Moss, Donor Recruiter at Mount Auburn Hospital, blood donors can potentially save up to three lives with a single donation, and all of the lifesaving blood that is collected on the day of the drive will go directly to help patients in the community at Mount Auburn Hospital. Everyone is invited to come and give a donation. For more information, contact Sensei Jason Gould at 617-202-3856 or at Jason.Gould@karateinboston.com. |
