Try Yoga Classes at Our Dojo! We regret to report that we have temporarily suspended the yoga classes at the dojo in order to restructure our yoga program. (All other programs at the dojo are running per our class schedule.) If you are interested in the yoga classes at our studio, we encourage you to sign up for our email newsletter so that you'll receive word as soon as classes resume.
We are committed to providing you with the opportunity and an environment for personal growth. Yoga training strengthens and tones the body and improves balance, coordination, and flexibility. Yoga also generates vitality and a profound sense of well-being: You'll find that practicing yoga cultivates confidence, peacefulness, and heightened awareness that will have a positive effect on your life outside of class. The practice of yoga is a journey of self-discovery. While engaging the body, the breath, and the mind in a process that involves both dynamic movement and active stillness, you'll begin to learn more about who you really are. Whether you are looking to escape from the everyday stresses of life, test your body’s physical limits, or deepen your connection to spirit, our studio is a place for you. Please contact us to arrange for a free trial class! Our Studio We have created a welcoming and serene haven where people of all walks of life can retreat from the bustle of the city and reenergize. Designed to revitalize your spirit and enhance your practice, our beautiful studio is an urban oasis filled with natural elements. Each time you visit our calming space, you'll forget the pressures of the day and reconnect to the urban environment in a new and empowering way. Our Community We encourage our students to not only take our classes, but to join our community one that is built on a tradition of honoring our bodies, minds, and spirits. You'll find a diverse group of friendly people training in our studio, and beginners and advanced yoga practitioners are equally welcome. Outside of class, our members frequently gather together for special events and to participate in community service activities that help to broaden our sense of responsibility for the world we live in. We invite you to come and explore our multi-faceted approach to mind/body wellness!
Classes and Schedule We practice a variety of yoga styles at our studio. In each class you'll receive personal instruction in the various yoga postures (asanas), and breathing methods (pranayama). Individuals are free to work at their own level without judgment, yet all are gently encouraged to explore and challenge their own personal boundaries of physical comfort. Meditation and chanting (mantra) are frequently used as techniques for centering, and most classes conclude with a period of deep relaxation (shivasana) to cultivate a tranquil heart and to restore a sense of balance and harmony to the body and mind. Everything we do in yoga is designed to bring physical ease and mental peace. After only a short period of regular training, you'll look forward not only to the physical workout that yoga provides, but also to the quiet, "stillpoint" in your day. As you continue along the yoga path, you'll begin to enjoy the benefits of greater endurance and improved mental focus. With experience comes confidence, and in time you'll find yourself going deeper into your poses, or playfully and mindfully experimenting with some of the more challenging postures. We hope that the practice of yoga will help you to expand your awareness both outwardly and inwardly. As an accompaniment to the experience of yoga in our studio, you'll be introduced to relevant passages from a variety of ancient texts as well as the writings of more contemporary authors. The studio's growing yoga library contains a wealth of information on the yogic lifestyle, and all studio members are welcome to borrow reading materials and other resources to broaden and deepen their understanding and appreciation of the various aspects of yoga. We want to develop a robust schedule that meets the needs of our members, and we invite you to provide us with your input and feedback as we develop our yoga program. It is our intention to eventually run early-morning, daytime, evening, and weekend yoga classes at the studio, so if there are particular kinds of classes or specific meeting times that you would like to see, let us know! |
